 New Beginnings Articles of Faith

A. The Word of God

We believe that the Holy Bible, both the Old and New Testaments, is the Word of God, is fully inspired and without error in the original manuscripts, and is written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. It has supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct. (2 Tim 3:16; 2 Peter 1:21)

B. The Trinity

We believe that there is only one living and true God, eternally existing in three persons, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit; that they are equal in all divine perfections and that they execute distinct but harmonious offices in the work of creation, both visible and invisible, providence and redemption. (John 14:26; 2 Corinthians 13:14; 1 Peter 1:2)

C. God the Father

We believe in God the Father, an infinite, personal spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power, and love. We believe that he concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men, that he hears and answers prayer, and that he saves from sin and death all who come to him through his Son Jesus Christ.  (John: 17:1-5; 1 Cor.1:3; 2 Cor. 1:3; Gal, 1:1-5; Eph.1:1-10; Phi.1:3; Col.1:1-4; 1Thess.1:1-3; 2 Thess.1:2; Rev.1:4-6)

D. Jesus Christ

We believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit. We believe in his virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, and teachings. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures. We believe in his substitutionary atoning death, bodily resurrection, ascension into Heaven, and that he is seated at the right hand of God the Father. We believe in his perpetual intercession for his people as the High Priest, and in his personal and visible return to earth to rule the nations as King of kings and Lord of lords. (John 1:1,14; 1 Cor. 15:3-4; Rom. 8:34; Acts 1:11)

E. The Holy Spirit

We believe in the Holy Spirit who came forth from the Father and the Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment and to regenerate, sanctify, and empower all who believe in Jesus Christ. We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells every believer in Christ and that he is an abiding helper, teacher, and guide. (John 16:7-11,13; Acts 1:8; Romans 8:16; Ephesians 1:13)

F. Mankind

We believe that man was created by God from the dust of the ground, and that God formed woman from the flesh of man; both are created in the image of God. As image bearers of God, all human beings have intrinsic value and dignity. The first man, Adam, sinned against God. He incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death for all mankind, which is separation from God. All human beings are born with a sinful nature. (Genesis 1:26-27; 2:7,12; Romans 5:12; Ephesians 2:1-3)

G.  Salvation

The message of salvation consists of three components: The person, the offer, and the response. Salvation is by grace through the person of Jesus Christ – his incarnation as God’s Son, his death, burial, and resurrection; and current reign as Lord. The offer of salvation includes freedom from the power and guilt of sin, the gift of the Holy Spirit, and adoption as sons and daughters to walk and live in the newness of life with Christ into his family, the universal Church. The response required for salvation is repentance, faith, and obedience in following Jesus as Lord. (Eph.2:8-10; 1 Cor.15:1-4; Rom.10:8-10; Eph.1:13; Luke 24:46-47; Matt.16:24-27; 2Cor. 5:17)

H. The Church

We believe in the universal Church, a living, spiritual body of which Jesus Christ is Lord and Head; all regenerated persons are members. We believe in the local Church, consisting of a community of believers in Jesus Christ, baptized on a credible profession of faith and associated for worship, work, and fellowship. We believe that God has called the members of the local Church to live out the two greatest commandments of loving God and loving one’s neighbor as oneself. Upon the foundations of these two commandments, we believe that God has given the Church the task of sharing the love and gospel of Jesus Christ with the world. (Heb. 10:25; Matt. 16:17, Col. 1:17)

I.  Christian Conduct

We believe that Christians should live for the glory of God and the well-being of others; that love should be supreme, both toward God and others; that their conduct should be blameless before the world; that they should be faithful stewards of their possessions; and they should seek to realize for themselves and others the full stature of maturity in the Lord Jesus Christ. (2 Peter 1: 3-9; I John 3: 1-24)
